Nuts Bar: A practical source of vegetable protein
Share
Nuts bars have become increasingly popular, due to their practicality and nutritional richness.
Nuts are high-calorie foods and should therefore be eaten in moderation, especially by those who want to lose/manage their weight. (1)
However, they have nutritional characteristics that can greatly benefit human health, regarding the prevention and treatment of diseases such as:
- Cardiovascular diseases:
Regular consumption of nuts is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. This is because these foods are rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which help to reduce LDL cholesterol (the “bad cholesterol”) and increase HDL cholesterol (the “good cholesterol”).
- Bone problems:
Nuts are a good source of essential minerals such as magnesium, calcium and phosphorus, which are fundamental for bone health. Intake of these minerals helps maintain bone density, reducing the risk of fractures and preventing conditions such as osteoporosis.
- Oxidative stress and inflammation:
As they are rich in antioxidant compounds, such as polyphenols, flavonoids and vitamin E, nuts can help combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, which are factors implicated in various chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. (2)
- Brain diseases:
As a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which play a crucial role in brain health, regular consumption of these fruits can improve cognitive function and slow age-related mental decline. Omega-3 helps preserve brain cell function, contributing to better cognitive performance. (3)
- Weight control:
If consumed in moderate portions, nuts can help with weight control, thanks to the satiating effect of the fibers and proteins present, which help to reduce hunger and thus total daily calorie intake. (2,4)
These health benefits come about because these foods are rich in mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 and 6), protein, fiber, vitamins (E, B2, B6...), minerals (iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, zinc) and phytochemicals, including phenolic acids, phytosterols and phenolic compounds, which give them great antioxidant potential. (1,5,6)
These foods are also an excellent source of vegetable protein, which makes them an excellent alternative for vegetarians and vegans.
Our nuts bars, in addition to containing the nuts whose benefits you've already learned about, are also composed of pure chocolate (and not a substitute), which has a number of health benefits, as you can see in this article on our blog on the subject.
Unlike real chocolate, chocolate substitutes, which are commonly used in industry, have a much lower percentage of cocoa butter, which means that the cocoa butter is replaced by hydrogenated vegetable oils, which are very harmful to health.
